Steamtown National Historic Site in nearby Downtown Scranton is offering a Steam Train Excursion to Tobyhanna in the Pocono Mountains.
The train will depart the station in Scranton at 11:00am and return at around 3:00pm.
The 4-hour round-trip excursion will roll past historic buildings, through a tunnel, along mountain creeks and rivers, past lakes and reservoirs, and through beautiful Pocono Mountain woodlands.
The village of Tobyhanna boasts a restored passenger-freight station built in 1908.
For those who would like to see the steam train when it arrives in Tobyhanna between 11:45 and 12:00noon, just drive over to the Tobyhanna Train Station located on Route 423; the number there is (570) 894-3338.
If you wish to be a passenger on the train, it will leave the Steamtown boarding platform in Scranton at 11:00am, with planned return arrival in Scranton at around 3:00pm.
Light refreshments will be available in Tobyhanna.
To find Steamtown in Scranton from I-81, use exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway) and follow the signs to the main entrance at Lackawanna and Cliff avenues.
