Posted: Thursday, July 29 2010 (15:19:27) Flag as: Wrong Category Inappropriate/SPAMEvent starts: August 7 2010 This year's 6th annual Festival of Wood will be held in two locations: at Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford and in Milford's Ann Street Memorial Park. Hosted by the US Forest Service at Grey Towers, his family-friendly and mostly free event offers a variety of activities and events that demonstrate the many ways we use and enjoy wood in our daily lives. Free music with wood instruments along with popular local bands will be provided each day. Many games, toys and activities all involving wood will be available for kids, along with visits from Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl. All ages will enjoy the exciting chain saw carving demonstrations throughout the weekend! A variety of refreshments will be available. Admission to the Festival of Wood is free, and a free shuttle will run between Memorial Park and Grey Towers. Festival hours are 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday and 10:00 to 4:00 on Sunday. The Festival of Wood is a "celebration of our natural and cultural heritage of wood. The US Forest Service is hosting the event at Grey Towers, ancestral home of Gifford Pinchot, who founded and served as the first chief of the Forest Service from 1905 1910. To find Grey Towers from Route 6 near Milford, turn onto Old Owego Turnpike (near the Apple Valley Shops Complex) and travel about 1 4 mile to the entrance on the left.
