It started with an internet chat and a movie, but what supposedly happened afterwards, is what got one Scranton teacher suspended -- and now, in trouble with the law.
A community is shocked and a school district saddened after one of their own was arrested.
"You have a teacher that is supposed to protect, in that type of situation where they are violating one of the people they are supposed to be caring for," said Josh Wilson of Scranton.
The news that high school teacher Joseph Voyt, 33, is accused of engaging in sexual contact with a minor has people in Scranton shaking their heads.
"Its not appropriate to have a relationship with a student. They look up to you," said Quais Wasal, a Scranton high school alum.
Voyt faces five years in prison if convicted of the charge.
Police say he chatted on Facebook with the male student and they went to a movie last November. Voyt allegedly had sexual contact with the teen afterwards.
Voyt has been suspended since the district first alerted authorities in April.
"The minute we were informed about the situation, we jumped into action," said Scranton Public Schools Superintendent William King.
King said the charge against Voyt wont have any impact on policies at Scranton High School.
"We're going to let the justice system play it out."
Court documents show Voyt asked at least one other Scranton high school student his age and sexual orientation. That student reported it to a faculty member.
The charge filed only involves one boy.
