SHICKSHINNY, LUZERNE COUNTY- Northwest Area teachers said they will hit the picket lines beginning this Tuesday, April 1.

Teachers there have been working without a contract since 2005 and negotiations with the school board have again broken down.

The teachers have been upset after the school board didn't respond to the union's latest proposal of teachers paying toward their health insurance.
It's not known how long the strike will last, but under state guidelines the 180-day school year must be completed by June 15.
