SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- US Attorney Thomas Marino said Friday he will resign his position as chief prosecutor October 12. Through a news release, Marino said he made the decision to leave "some time ago." Marino added the decision to publicly announce his future plans was made to "dispel speculation in some quarters regarding (his) future."

New reports in Allentown's Morning Call newspaper published last month indicated US Attorney Marino's name had appeared as a reference on Dunmore Businessman Louis DeNaple's casino license application for his Mount Airy Casino Resort. The newspaper cited the information was obtained from two confidential sources. Mount Airy has a planned mid-October opening.

Neither Marino or office staff members have returned phone calls looking for comment on the casino license application process.

WBRE News spoke with a representative from the Pa. Gaming Control Board. That agency would not release information on any references appearing on gaming applications.

Marino is scheduled to resign October 12.
